I decided to have a look at some 1950's vintage style recipes. They used to print these on the packs of flour and other things like this back in the day. I really like the aesthetic of this style of design, The photos have illustrative qualities, its almost as if they have been drawn with pastels, wherever or not this is because the paper has aged is another story, but the visual style reminds me of Kidston. These recipes also give you an idea of the kind of cakes that were being produced back in the day. We want to recreate the same visual style as Kidston and try and focus on British cakes/baking. These are just a few examples of some of the recipes I came across. They are not all that British so we will have to have a re-think about the cakes we want to include.
I love how they have depicted these pies in this recipe. The latice style pie will make for some really nice imagery. I think we will consider having pie in the design!
Similar Illustrative style to Kidston. Realistic illustration with many tonal variants which is what we are wanting. The 1950s style of drawing was really beautiful. It reminds me of a realistic cartoon in a way.
The upside down cake was a massive cake of the 50s and looks quite interesting. It is a pretty crazy concept but i think it is an essential part of 50's baking that we would like to revamp. This is another desert we are considering for the pattern design.
